GeographyAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 21.5 square miles , of which, 20.9 square miles of it is land and 0.6 square miles of it 2.88% is water.
Upper Makefield borders Solebury, Buckingham, Wrightstown, Lower Makefield, Newtown Township and the Delaware River.
Upper Makefield is a very desirable township in Bucks County. The township itself has a well preserved sense of history. Homesteads in Upper Makefield served as headquarters to General Washington during the Revolutionary War. It is here in Upper Makefield that General Washington made his famous voyage and crossed the Delaware River on Christmas Day. The location is now home to Washington Crossing State Park. This day is reenacted every year on Christmas Day.
